Legal Seminar on Investment and Financing of Chinese Enterprises in Philippines held successfully

The legal seminar on investment and financing of Chinese enterprises in Philippines, co-organized by the Listed Companies Association of Shanghai, PE Association of Shanghai, Shanghai Association of International Services Trade, Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, Legal Research Center of the Bund Finance Innovation Pilot Area was held in Shanghai on January 15, 2018. This is the 7th station of the serial seminars on investment and financing of Chinese enterprises abroad.

Zou Yu, the venerable former Minister of Ministry of Justice and the first President of All China Lawyers Association, points out in his speech that China, which has stepped into the center of the world stage, will surely bring to the world a Chinese legal system that embraces the achievements of legal civilization from other jurisdictions under the rule of law to provide Chinese wisdom and scenario in the global governance; that the improving socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics will surely play a very important role in guiding the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation; and that the diligent Chinese law professionals in a new era will certainly be able to display their wisdom under the leadership of Communist Party of China to make new contribution to this new era.

Li Fei, deputy secretary-general of the NPC Standing Committee, pointed out in his speech that the Philippines is a friendly neighbor of China and an important partner in the development of the Belt and Road Initiative. To uphold the good neighborly and friendly cooperation and achieve win-win cooperation is the direction indicated by President Xi Jinping for the development of friendly relations between China and Philippines. It is greatly important to deepen the exchange and cooperation in legislature, local governments, culture, youth, tourism, personnel exchanges and other fields.

At the seminar, Mr. Perry Pe, President elect of Inter-Pacific Bar Association and the famous lawyer of Philippines, Wang Weijun, deputy secretary general of Shanghai International Arbitration Center and Jack Li, founding partner of Jin Mao Partners delivered keynote speeches respectively on the legal issues of investment and financing of Chinese enterprises in the Philippines, latest practices of cross-border arbitration and practice and prevention of legal risks of overseas investment and financing of Chinese Enterprises in ASEAN.

The ASEAN Alliance of Lawyers Service and the Belt and Road Initiative Legal Research and Service Center Indonesia station and Laos station, established by a Chinese leading law firm and ASEAN leading law firms, were also announced at the seminar.

Wang Qingzhou, member of the CPC Committee of Huangpu District and Minister of the United Front Work Department, delivered closing remarks. He emphasized that since the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative by President Xi Jinping, the international community has widely responded to the initiative and the overseas investment and financing of Chinese enterprises is growing rapidly. In this great journey to build a community of human destiny, Law is a crucial factor. The seminar invited the renowned international lawyer, Perry, president elect of the preeminent Inter-Pacific Bar Association, and other Chinese and foreign experts to focus their attention on the legal practices of Chinese enterprises in the ASEAN countries such as the Philippines, is very practical and specific. At the same time, it is of great practical significance for China's professional law firms and their counterparts in the ASEAN countries to jointly sponsor the establishment of an ASEAN alliance of lawyers service and assist in building a legal service community. Recently, Mr. Li Qiang, secretary of the municipal party committee, has pointed out many times that the rule of law is the core symbol of Shanghai's institutional competitiveness. The aim of Shanghai to be a "five center" and a cosmopolitan city is inseparable from the hard work and dedication of the vast numbers of socialist builders including lawyers. He wishes that more people with insight to work together in Huangpu and Shanghai to exchange views and learn from each other and to jointly build and share the Belt and Road initiative to jointly write a new chapter in the new era.

This seminar is also one of the series of activities in Shanghai of Mr. Perry, the designated President of Inter-Pacific Bar Association. During his visit to Shanghai, Perry specially meet with Lu Weidong, secretary of the party committee and chief director of Shanghai Bureau of Justice, Wang Xie, deputy director, Xin Feng, deputy director of the lawyers management office, Zhang Tingting, deputy director of the office of Shanghai Bureau of Justice, Cheng Meihong, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Tourism and Chen Ping, deputy section director of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Tourism, Wu Mingde, former secretary general of All China Lawyers Association, David Yu Weifeng, president of Shanghai Bar Association and Wang Xufeng, deputy secretary general of the Shanghai Bar Association, Ma Yi, deputy director and secretary general of Shanghai International Arbitration Center, Fan Yongjin, vice chairman of Shanghai financial industry federation, Qian Heng, secretary general of listed companies association of Shanghai, Chi Hong, president of Shanghai international trade services association, Wang Xiangxiu, vice dean of international law school of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, Sun Zhixiang, Wu Jian, Jin Liyu, representatives of famous leading law firms, and China Eastern Airlines and other large enterprises under the central government and in Shanghai, representatives of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association in Shanghai and Shanghai Bar Association.

Perry enjoyed and experienced the international metropolis charm of Shanghai with diversity, excellence, wisdom and modesty during his short visit in Shanghai.
