Deputy Director-General of WTO Met Vice President of IPBA

Jack Li (Li Zhiqiang), one the two members of Chinese lawyers and Vice President of Inter-Pacific Bar Association (“IPBA”), founding partner of Jin Mao Partners, visited the World Trade Organization (“WTO”) in Geneva, Switzerland on his tour of Belt and Road Legal Research and Service Centre on January 15, 2019.

The World Trade Organization, abbreviated as WTO, has the reputation of United Nations of Economy and is one of the most important international economic organizations in the world. It has 164 state members, which account for up to 98% of the total trade volume of the world. On November 10, 2001, legal documents of China’s accession to WTO was approved at the Fourth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization held in Kadar Doha, proclaiming the successful end of 15 years of WTO accession efforts of the world’s largest developing country. The system of global economy with China is now taking shape.

Xiaozhun Yi, Deputy Director-General of WTO, Gabrielle Marceau, Senior Counsellor of Legal Affairs Division of WTO, and other senior official met with Jack Li (Li Zhiqiang) and his fellow. Xiaozhun Yi, Deputy Director-General of WTO, served as Deputy Minister of Commerce of China, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland. In August 2013, he served as Deputy Director-General of the WTO, with three others from Algeria, Germany, U.S. Deputy Director General participating in WTO governance.

The current Director-General of the WTO is a diplomat from Brazil, Roberto Azevedo, who attended the 26th Annual Meeting and Conference of the IPBA in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and delivered a speech in 2015. He was invited to attend the first China International Import Expo in November 2018 and has visited China many times.
